Inserting Figures - Thesis and Dissertation - Research.
This prints the number of the page where the object labeled by marker appears. Compiling a L a T e X document with labels and references. The marker used to label objects is not shown anywhere in the document, and references to it are replaced with the appropriate numbers. If we reference a non-existent marker, L a T e X will compile successfully but with a warning about undefined references.
Double-space the text of your dissertation or thesis, as well as the abstract, preface and any appendices. Indent the first line of each paragraph. Single-space footnotes, bibliographical entries and block quotations. In the table of contents and the lists of tables and figures, single-space entries and double-space between them. See 1.10.
Figures and Tables Refer to the Sample (Straight Numbering) or Sample (Decimal Numbering) pages as you read through this section. A thesis may include tables, figures, photographs, musical examples, charts, graphs, line drawings, maps, and other illustrative materials.
It is often best include a separate list of all the figures in the dissertation (figure number, label, page number), and a separate list of all tables in the dissertation (table number, label, page number). Chapter 1: Introduction: The introduction has several purposes. Clearly one is to set the scene for the project by giving a little relevant.
The numbering may continue the series in the body of the material (e.g., Table 14, Figure 16, etc.), or a separate numbering sequence (e.g., Table A1, Figure A3, etc.) may be used. Materials not in electronic files, such as audio or videotapes, or color print materials significant to the thesis or dissertation, should be scanned or digitized so that they may be submitted and displayed.
Having a figure in an introduction is a common practice, and one that I strongly recommend. Images are very good at conveying some ideas and relationships, and are also good for catching the eye and helping pick out key elements of a document (i.e., the things the author thinks are important enough to illustrate).
V isibly clear of the text, preferably in the top outer corner of each page, although may be placed in the Footer Object numbering tables, figures and equations should each follow a separate sequence A rabic numerals should be used, below the object Chapter number may be included.
